Better Than a Vodka Tonic

Better Mood Enhancement Than Chocolate, Alcohol, or Music

The next time you need a need boost, forget chocolate.  Forget the wine and mood music, too. Because researchers have discovered something else that works even better.  And best of all, it’s calorie-free, doesn’t require exercise, and can be done almost anywhere.  What is it?  Looking at personal photos.

Researchers at the United Kingdom’s Open University examined how much people’s mood rose after eating chocolate, sipping an alcoholic drink, watching TV, listening to music or looking at photos.

They found that the music and chocolate left people’s moods unchanged.  Alcohol and TV gave a slight lift.  But the winner by a long shot was viewing personal photos, which made people significantly better.

So next time you feel down in the dumps, pull out the photos.

Write it down!

The greatest memories in our lives are here one minute and gone the next!

From your wedding day to the first words or first steps of a child or grandchild. At the time, you think you will never forget those precious moments in time.

I hate to break it to you, but eventually you will! You’ll lose those priceless details including sounds, sights and smells that make life’s events so special.

I encourage you to write it down. If you are not the journaling type, don’t fret. Simple lists of what was said, how you felt, what they were wearing, the weather, etc. will make for great memory books later on.

Here is a great site I found that can help with those little lists! List Plan It is a resource with every list imaginable to record your important memories… from weddings, child birth, to preschool and college graduation!

Get that pen and paper out! Lonnie

What do Ashton Kutcher and I have in common?

“What could I, Lonnie, possibly have in common with this handsome, 31 year-old former model, actor and producer?,” you may ask yourself. It’s simple really!

Ashton (big time spokesperson for Nikon…they even gave him his own website) and I love our digital cameras! That’s right, we both have a thing for this technology that can capture a moment in just an instance. What I love most is that I can erase those snap shots that don’t turn out too well and try again without wasting film (I didn’t say I was good at it). :)

Did you know that October, November and December are the biggest “photo opp months” of the year! The most pictures are taken these three months than any other time of year with Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and other cherished holidays creating fond memories that should be remembered for a lifetime.

So whip out your digital camera, snap away (remember, you can’t waste film), create lasting memories and don’t let them just sit on your computer or in a shoebox somewhere. Create something beautiful that you can share!

Stop by the Memory Divas launch party this Saturday to learn about ways to turn your pictures into lasting and beautiful memories that you can share. And be entered to win a pocket-size digital camcorder!

The Book That Started It All…

Here is the storybook I received earlier this year that got me hooked on preserving priceless memories for family and friends. I quickly joined Heritage Makers to help empower women to cherish and preserve their most prized possessions - the precious memories in their lives.

I created Memory Divas to help women hold onto each moment through archiving photos, storybooking and gift giving.

I hope you enjoy this Mother’s Day storybook as much as I do!

Economic Hardships Means Smart Spending

“Tighten your belt”, “cut-back”, and “save” are phrases that are very often heard during these troubled economic times.  What this looks to each one of us may be somewhat different, but ultimately people are looking for ways to cut back on unnecessary spending.  Families have begun to focus more on the important things in life – spending quality time with family and friends.  Since you are spending more and more time at home, it’s a perfect opportunity to make memories and preserve the stories.

Preserving stories though “storybooking” is so much more important than an expensive dinner or a bouquet of flowers, for example.  In reality, it is about saving – saving memories, saving stories, and saving the moments in life so they can be remembered again and again and again.

“Save” by definition is “to keep from being lost; maintain, preserve.” That is what storybooking is all about-keeping your memories from being lost forever.  Write down the funny things your kids or grandkids say; document your family’s special traditions; make sure your family remembers the details of that memorable trip you took together.  Your stories are far too precious to be forgotten.  Preserving them ensures that you, your children, and your children’s children will be able to enjoy them for many years to come.  There is no better time than now to get started.  Save not only your memories, but also you time and money too.

Start preserving your memories today by creating your own storybook or hosting a workshop. Contact me today to learn more!
